She built an affordable tiny house village for women
For some women, a small home can become the beginning of something much bigger: a place where independence and belonging coexist.
Robyn Yerian created The Bird’s Nest in Cumby, Texas, after deciding tiny-home living could help make retirement more manageable.
By 2022, she had turned five acres into a community with 14 spaces, where women could have their own homes while sharing common areas and looking out for one another.
The original April 2025 story highlighted how residents gathered, shared meals, and built friendships.
That sense of connection became clearer later that year. In December 2025, CBS Texas reported that the community had 11 residents and that they had supported resident Cheryl Huff through an unexpected heart surgery.
“I didn’t know we would get this close,” resident Donna Welborn told CBS. “It is literally a sisterhood.”
The Bird’s Nest shows that having your own space does not have to mean living alone. Sometimes, the most meaningful part of home is knowing there are people nearby who will show up when life suddenly becomes difficult. 💖✨️
