COPE ACCEPTS AND RESPECTS CONSTITUTIONAL COURT RULING ON CANDIDATES.
MEDIA STATEMENT
20 September 2021.
No matter how disappointed we are with the questionable actions within the IEC, the Congress of the People (COPE) accepts and respects the Constitutional Court ruling.
We have always said that we are a law abiding Party. We will always be on the side of the Judiciary. We will always defend the Judiciary and our Democracy.
Our approach for now is to focus on our election campaign. In fact we never took our eyes off the election campaign and we want to urge all other political parties and Independent candidates to focus on the elections and accept the ruling.
As COPE our priority is to intensify our election campaign. The people on the ground are crying out for change in their Municipalities.
We are very encouraged with the response of the people during the past Voter Registration weekend. We are pleased with the positive response we received where our members were working. It is very clear that people are fed-up. They want to vote to change their situation.
Our message is very simple and clear - your vote is your power, your vote can restore your dignity. It is your key to have a municipal councils and councillors that will ensure that you must get proper service delivery.
Wherever we go, basic service delivery in non existent. Water is a major problem in almost all municipalities. In some areas people are literally without water and have to drink water with animals from dams. No electricity, no proper roads, sewage runs all over the streets, and corruption in the allocation of RDP houses.
COPE will launch its Local Government Elections Manifesto on Friday 24 were we will present a document that was compiled out of our engagements with the people on the ground. This will be committments to the people of the country and not empty promises. People are sick and tired of empty promises of over 27 years.
We call upon the voters to give COPE a chance. We
