Before integration… before equal access… before opportunity was guaranteed — there was The Safe Bus Company.
Founded in 1926 right here in Winston-Salem, The Safe Bus Company was a Black-owned transportation service created because African Americans were denied equal transportation. For nearly five decades, it didn’t just move passengers — it moved a community forward.
It transported workers to jobs.
It carried students toward education.
It helped families stay connected.
It created Black jobs, Black leadership, and Black economic power.
Today, that legacy still matters.
Black-owned transportation businesses continue to serve our seniors, individuals with disabilities, workers, and families — often filling gaps that others overlook. Supporting Black-owned transportation isn’t just about a ride.
It’s about:
✔️ Economic empowerment
✔️ Community stability
✔️ Local job creation
✔️ Preserving a powerful legacy
This Black History Month, let’s remember that mobility is opportunity — and who owns the wheels matters.
When you support Black-owned transportation services, you help drive our community forward.
