This is something that happened at a Jewish
Assisted Living Center. The people who
lived there had small apartments but they
all ate at a central cafeteria. One morning Zalman Shapiro didn't show up for
breakfast so my wife went upstairs and
knocked on his door to see if everything
was OK. She could hear him through the door and he said
that he was running late and would be down shortly, so she
went back to the dining area.
An hour later he still hadn't arrived, so she went back up
towards his room but found him on the stairs. He was
coming down the stairs but was having a hard time. He had
a death grip on the hand rail and seemed to have trouble
getting his legs to work right. She told him she was going to
call an ambulance but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain
and just wanted to have his breakfast. So, she helped him
the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast.
When he tried to return to his room, he was completely
unable to get up even the first stair step, so they called an
ambulance for him.
A couple of hours later she called the hospital to see how he
was doing. The receptionist there said he was fine, he just
had both of his legs in one side of his boxer shorts.
I'm sending this to my children so that they don't sell the
house before they know all the facts.

Marcel Marceau developed his craft while desperately trying to keep children quiet as he helped them escape the Nazis…

He was born Marcel Mangel on March 22, 1923 in Strasbourg, France, to a Jewish family. His parents were Ann Werzberg Mangel and Charles Mangel, a kosher butcher. The child discovered Charlie Chaplin at age five when his mother took him to the movies and he became an avid fan. He entertained his friends with Chaplin imitations, and dreamed of starring in silent movies.

The first time Marcel used mime was after France was invaded in World War II, in order to keep Jewish children quiet while he helped them escape to neutral Switzerland.

Masquerading as a boy scout, Marcel evacuated a Jewish orphanage in eastern France. He told the children he was taking them on a vacation in the Alps, and led them to safety in Switzerland. Marcel made the perilous journey three times, saving hundreds of Jewish orphans. He was able to avoid detection by entertaining the children with silent pantomime...

Rabbi Shmuel dies and is now standing in a line of people waiting to find out whether they are going to heaven - a line containing, among others, the righteous, academics, religious leaders, and the virtuous. As Rabbi Shmuel looks around, he sees an angel bowing down and talking with respect to a rather rough looking man. The angel then leads this man to the front of the line.
Rabbi Shmuel is very surprised by this action. "How odd," he says to himself. "It seems that this ordinary looking man is going to get precedence over all of us here. Who can this man be?"
The angel notices the look of surprise on Rabbi Shmuel's face and so goes over to him and says, "I know it looks a bit odd, rabbi, but this man is a taxi driver."
"But if that is all, why does it make him a special person?" asks Rabbi Shmuel.
"Let me explain, rabbi," replies the angel. "It's simple really. We obviously realise up here that in your lifetime, you have influenced quite a lot of people and explained to them why they should believe in Hashem. But the thousands of people who have travelled in this man's taxi immediately began to pray with 100% total sincerity."
