AUSTIN COLE and EMMALEE NICOLE working on keeping barges moving within the fleet despite the river conditions, any movement whatsoever is becoming a daunting task. There is no doubt in our minds that this is the worst ice event our operation has faced since the winter of 1977-1978.

Here's a couple throwback photos from Christmas past! The crew of the MISTER CHARLIE NEALE consisting of Capt. John Carson Sr. (left), Mate Larry Fuchs (center), and Capt. Charlie Neale (right) posed for a couple pictures while they spent the Christmas holiday on the water back in 2006. Capt. Neale always filled his suitcase to the brim with items handed out at the Workboat Show in early December and would stuff everyone's stockings with goodies he found at the show. You can see lots of those goodies on the galley table are what he lugged back in his suitcase from New Orleans including one special item that was carefully wrapped in a spare grocery bag & some masking tape! This crew as of last year has all crossed the bar, but we know they're all celebrating Christmas together once again as they did 19 years ago. Whether you are spending Christmas on the water today with your river family, or spending it on dry land with your own family & friends, Merry Christmas to each and every one of you.

Now for your answer from our anniversary post a few days ago...
On a very chilly morning on November 21st, 2005 the crew of the MISTER CHARLIE NEALE arrived in South Heights, PA to purchase and pick up the DANIELL LYNN, which subsequently became the CAPT. RICK NEALE. 99.9% of people who would have stepped on that boat that day would have guaranteed that she would never turn a wheel again.

Neale Marine at the time was looking to replace our aging landing barge, and our original intention was to merely utilize this vessel as a landing boat. A later drydocking where we saw the stainless steel stern out of the water switched the focus into a rebuild project, and the arduous process began.

So today marks 20 years of our ownership of the venerable HUMPHREY during her 67 year tenure on the river!

Lots of work has been completed aboard the RAMSEY A. NEALE over the past few months including a new complement of pilothouse electronics, upgrade of an old Varo Xenon searchlight to a new Carlisle & Finch LED searchlight, some hull work, and plenty of paint! The vessel received her annual inspection plus 5 year drydock inspection by our local USCG marine safety unit and has been SIRE inspected, she'll be running around the harbor again full time starting tonight!

Stumbled upon a great photo in the history room of the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta...the CAPT. RICK NEALE (formerly the DANIELL LYNN) in a shoving contest with the CHARLESTON in the 1990s. Looks like the CAPT. RICK NEALE's former Superior engines were getting a workout, would love to know which boat won the contest!

Quite a busy morning around the fleet today while we drydocked the RAMSEY A. NEALE for USCG inspection. We hope you enjoy today's time lapse of the drydock process!
