Survivor Mark Campbell
2nd Birthday 6/28/2024
Mark and his wife Susan were leaving a local business in Sugarcreek and heading home on the afternoon of June 28th. While driving home they were having a conversation about one of their children when Mark stopped responding. Susan imminently pulled the car over and tried to wake Mark, up but was unable to do so, Susans first plan was to start driving towards Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, but very quickly realized she needed help now.
Susan called 911, her call was answered by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff Office, they were quickly able to locate her on Ragersville Road parked at Gordon Milk. The 911 Dispatcher was quick to realize that Mark did not have a pulse and they needed to get CPR started as soon as possible. The 911 Dispatcher told Susan to get out of the car go around to Mark who was in the passenger seat, lay the seat back and start CPR. Susan who was a teacher for a number of years was trying to recall the CPR training she had back then, but was quickly relieved when the 911 Dispatcher told her they would walk her through exactly what to do. Susan was trying to do CPR on Mark but was struggling to do this in the car and talk on the phone at the same time.
Danyel Bordenkircher who is a Dispatcher for Gordon milk was notified by one of the shop workers that there was an older couple outside and it looked like the man was in trouble. Danyel who was a STNA prior to working for Gordon Milk quickly ran from her office outside to see if she could help and found Susan attempting to do CPR on Mark, Danyel quickly took over for Susan and was performing CPR until Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue arrived on scene and could take over.
Once Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue arrived on scene, Mark was removed from the SUV and High-Performance CPR was started, Mark was shocked multiple times on scene and (ROSC) Return of Spontaneous Circulation was achieved, Mark had a pulse again! At this point Mark was stabilized using Medications to keep his blood pressure up and was loaded into the ambulance and Transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton. Mark was admitted to the ICU for a couple of days before waking up and trying to figure out where he was. Mark said the last thing he remembers was being in the car and then waking up in a White hospital room and could not figure out how he got there. Mark was then transported by Ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland where he received an implanted Defibrillator and was able to come home 24 hours later.
Mark and Susan want to say THANK YOU to everyone who was involved, from the 911 Dispatchers at the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office to the Danyel the Dispatcher for Gordon Milk Transport the First Responders from Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue the ER and ICU teams at the Cleveland Clinic and most importantly Marks Family and Friends who supported them throughout the entire process.
