I've driven pickup trucks for years and have done countless favors and moves for friends and family alike. Back in February, I decided I wanted to make some extra income to help boost my budget. I had friends who drove for Uber, but due to owning an extended cab pickup truck, I was not qualified. As soon as I discovered this news, I began to think. Tons of people own pickup trucks. I see them on t
he road all the time. Yet for most of my friends, I am their only friend with a truck. This showed me that there are multitude of empty pickup truck beds out there on the road everyday, and also a huge demand for the ability to deliver large items or large quantities. I love my friends and family, and always try my best to help them out, but I knew there had to be a better way to do this. I thought of countless ways to use a pickup truck as a service. I began to think of ways to reach out to people via social media, and ask them if they needed something delivered. I even created a Craiglist job ad in attempts to earn people's business. No matter how much reaching out I did, I never seemed to make contact at the right time. They had either already used a rental or had paid insane prices for a moving company. That's when I decided that there should be a service that connects individuals directly to a local pickup truck driver, INSTANTLY and ON-DEMAND.
On April 7th, 2017, I completed a wire frame of my mobile web application. After I had a "blueprint" to base my thoughts off of, I began building an online service that can benefit everyone. I began to thoroughly break down my idea, and put it on paper and online. Any local pickup truck owner in Spartanburg, SC is eligible for application. All drivers are subject to a background check, must have a valid South Carolina Driver's License, and must have valid insurance/registration. The drivers are locals, just like you and me. This means that instead of paying that big nationwide rental corporation or that global shipping company, your money goes straight back into the local economy. I went with the name "TruckBud" because everyone eventually needs a buddy with a truck. This website gives everyone that buddy.
