in December 1977. The company was headquartered in Proctorville until 1984. Superior purchased a property in Burlington, Ohio, which currently houses the company's main office, fabrication, machine shop and dry dock facilities. Superior specializes in harbor services and fleeting, general steel fabrication, barge cleaning, machine shop services, barge and towboat repair and new towboat and barge c

onstruction. There are currently 6 boats working the Huntington Harbor and one vessel dedicated to round trip work between Morgantown WV and Paducah, KY. Superior is currently owned and operated by Michael, Stephen and Matthew Manns and employers 135 people.

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the loss of our founder, L. Dale Manns.

In 1971 Dale began his entrepreneurial journey with a vision and a dump truck. After hauling coal that was unloaded from barges, he quickly saw the opportunity for a barge repair facility. Proctorville, Ohio became the location for Economy Barge. Dale traveled all over the inland waterway system developing partnerships and in 1983 developed the facility in South Point/Burlington, the continued home of Superior Marine Ways, Inc.

Dale’s vision created a company that has 17 tow boats, a fabrication shop, marine ways, two dry docks, and an indoor blast and paint facility. Superior employs 150 individuals and is continuing to grow.

From the employees over the past 53 years, thank you Dale for your vision and many sacrifices you endured creating this company. You will be missed greatly and we will continue to honor you daily!
