Riverport Railroad, LLC, located at the former Savanna Army Depot, is now taking applications for railroad personnel. Basic railroad experience, mechanic skills and the ability to operate some types of equipment are a plus, but no experience is necessary we are willing to train. Job duties will include, but are not limited to, track tie removal, rail replacement, activities involved with switching railcars, maintaining and adjusting switches and equipment maintenance. The ability to lift in excess of 60 pounds on a regular basis, hold a valid driver’s license as well as work outside in all weather conditions and pass a pre-employment drug test are required. Railroad Retirement Benefits offered as well as health, dental and vision insurance (company pays for employee, spouse or employee and dependents). Starting pay is $18 to $20 per hour based on experience. Pay raise after 60 days with yearly pay raises after that. Hours are Monday thru Friday 7am to 3:30pm. There is no travel for this position, all operations are located at the former Savanna Army Depot.

BUILD IT GROW IT IS BACK!

NW Illinois Economic Development has announced the return of their BUILD IT GROW IT program, a small business entrepreneurial bootcamp. They collaborated with Highland Community College, Gradient Coaching & Consulting, the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Sauk Valley Community College, Illinois Bank & Trust, a division of HTLF Bank, and ITC Midwest to offer this opportunity to the NW Illinois community.

Registration is now open! Participants select their location, either Riverport Railroad LLC in Savanna (Army depot) or the DeSoto House Hotel in Galena, and will receive five 90-minute monthly sessions beginning the week February 13 through the week of June 20. The cost is just $50.
