Accessibility means more than having words on a screen.
We love seeing the great work being done to make entertainment more accessible to the Deaf community. Former San Diego and Alpine resident and Certified Deaf Interpreter Scott Keller is among the Deaf interpreters translating entertainment content into ASL through SignUp Media, including work connected to its partnership with Netflix.
Keller makes an important distinction: captions provide access to written words, while interpreting can convey the linguistic, cultural, emotional and contextual meaning behind them.
As a San Diego based language services company providing ASL interpretation and other accessibility solutions, we’re especially proud to see someone with local roots helping push accessibility forward on such a large stage. Great work, Scott, and everyone helping make entertainment more accessible and inclusive.
Accessibility should never be an afterthought.
