Today we recognize and honor Juneteenth — a day of deep historical and cultural significance for African Americans in the United States.

This throwback takes us back to 2024, when SamTrans wrapped a bus in honor of Juneteenth for the first time. The vibrantly designed bus was created by Artist and SamTrans Employee Kalief Porter-Brown, and proudly sponsored by our African American Employee Resource Group (ERG). We're grateful for the artistry, history, and meaning behind this design — and the significance of this day.

Yesterday, we celebrated the ribbon cutting and official opening of our new District headquarters in Millbrae! 🎉💙

After 30+ years in San Carlos, this is a big milestone for our agency, and we're so grateful to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion. Thank you to our incredible Board Members (Chair Marie Chuang, Vice Chair Brooks Esser, David Canepa, Marina Fraser, Peter Ratto, Rico Medina and Jackie Speier), the City of Millbrae, the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce, San Mateo County Supervisors Jackie Speier and David Canepa, Assemblymember Diane Papan, Senator Josh Becker, and Congressman Kevin Mullin for being part of this celebration.

As we celebrate 50 years of SamTrans, we’re especially grateful for the legacy of Assemblyman Lou Papan, who carried the legislation that helped establish the district five decades ago.

Now headed into our sixth decade of connecting communities and moving San Mateo County, this new home feels like the perfect way to step into the next chapter. We have so much in store for the rest of the year — and we hope you get a chance to see our beautiful new HQ at our 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 26! ✨
