Say NO to East Hampton Airport

Say NO to East Hampton Airport Advocating transformation of East Hampton Airport (JPX), to sustainable, safe uses benefiting all residents. Please help win this battle.

We represent communities from Long Island to NYC, where safety, health and quality of life are endangered by noisy, polluting private aviation Our 501 (C) 4, the first local, all-volunteer community network based on the East End of Long Island focused on ending operations at East Hampton Airport. We are not tax deductible, but we do need donations to engage the many newcomers to our area. We repr

esent a network of communities the length and breadth of Long Island whose quality of life has been severely impacted by noisy, polluting and often dangerous operations at East Hampton Airport (KHTO). Public health and our environment, air, soil, and water quality are threatened by non-essential private aviation. Commuter charter and air taxi operators are profiting from blanketing our homes and recreational areas in carbon and lead emissions, from every flight over our homes, waterways and farmlands. One leg of a round-trip flight to/from NYC often carries no passengers. The giant carbon footprint from every flight is enormous. Say NO to East Hampton Airport, P.O. Box 1147, Sag Harbor, NY 11963

This is blatant disregard of the health and wellbeing of residents of Towns Other than East Hampton.
If such flights occurred regularly over East Hampton residents, the cowards in EH Town Hall and jpx airport would have closed the airport in 2021.
Instead, they coordinate with private commuter operators to avoid the two routes over EH which disturb the fewest residents and direct flights over their neighboring towns.
Shame on East Hampton, the Pariah of the East End.

A little too late, but many in Wainscott will welcome this news. These “Forever” chemicals were found in private wells near East Hampton Airport several years back, and Four sites on airport property were later confirmed contaminated by chemicals from fire fighting foam used or stored there years ago. Those areas at the airport are now Superfund sites and constantly monitored.

PFAS chemicals have been used for decades to waterproof and stain-proof consumer products and are linked to health problems.

This at a large airport!
Imagine what could happen at a small airport like East Hampton’s JPX. An airport where the tower is operational only in season.
And then only from 8 am to 8 pm.
Large private jets are still flying regularly in and out of JPX and that will continue until after the year end holidays.
Restrictions will not prevent carelessness or recklessness.
Close East Hampton Airport.

The circumstances are similar to many of the near misses that have alarmed aviation officials.

A total loss of engine power as a result of fuel starvation. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s failure to properly manage the fuel on board the airplane and his failure to perform an adequate preflight inspection.
