Reminder: Make sure you’re on the official NCDMV website (NCDMV.gov) when looking for information or completing online transactions like renewing your license or tags. For online services, visit payments.ncdot.gov or download the official myNCDMV app.

Some third-party sites and apps may appear in search results and charge extra fees for appointments or services. These are NOT associated with NCDMV. Scheduling an appointment with us is always free.

If the URL doesn’t end in .gov, it isn’t us.

Prioritize pet safety: never leave your pet in the car! 🐶😺

If they can’t go inside with you, they’re safest at home.

It’s also illegal in North Carolina to leave a pet in a hot car unattended.

Check out these pet-safety tips from the ASPCA.

Planning a visit to the DMV this summer?

Our driver license offices are open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, and no appointment is needed – walk in anytime.

If you want the quickest visit, afternoons usually have the shortest wait times, so you can get in and out more easily.

Before heading out, check current wait times at offices near you at VisitDMV.nc.gov.

Meet this month’s face of the NCDMV.

We’re spotlighting Examiner Jacquelyn, who joined the Wilson office in December after several years working as a remote help-desk analyst and in community-focused roles with the YMCA and county government.

After moving to North Carolina, she realized she wanted to truly know and serve the people in her community – a path that led her to the DMV. At last week’s graduation, Jacquelyn was selected to introduce Secretary Daniel Johnson and earned both the Secretary’s award, given for the highest test scores, and the Commissioner’s Award, chosen by her classmates.

Stay tuned for our next spotlight as we continue sharing the faces behind the DMV.

… and the MVP goes to our new in-office document upload tool. 🏆

It’s now easier than ever to check in at the DMV, thanks to a new feature that lets you upload proof of insurance and proof of residency documents right from your phone during your visit.

Already have your insurance card, utility bill, or lease saved on your phone? We’ve got you covered – just upload it using the secure link our staff will text to you when you check in.

This new feature ensures no customer is turned away for not having paper copies of their proof of insurance or proof of residency documents. We’ll continue finding ways to make your visit smoother. If you have any ideas, share them with us in the comments.

It’s National Paper Airplane Day! You don’t need a REAL ID to fly a paper airplane, but you do need one (or another acceptable form of ID like a passport) to board a domestic flight in the U.S.

If you don’t already have one, get on board now at NCREALID.gov

As we head into summer (AKA our busy season), we’re here to remind you that teens and new adult drivers have the option to take their road test at a certified private driver education school, instead of at the DMV.

You’ll still have to visit a DMV office to complete the process, but having your road test already completed can significantly reduce the time you spend there.

To find a driving school offering road tests near you, visit: https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/license-id/driver-licenses/new-drivers/Pages/driver-schools-road-tests.aspx
