• For much of the country, the work week comes to an end on a rainy, stormy note.
• Today's weather will primarily be shaped by high pressure systems over the Desert Southwest along with the Upper Midwest and into the Mid-Atlantic, while the rest of the country faces rain and thunderstorms shaped by multiple systems of low pressure.
• Throughout the day, sporadic showers and thunderstorms can be anticipated throughout the Southeastern U.S. and Great Plains, extending into the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest. In the West, the tallest peaks of the Cascades, Sierra Nevada, and Rocky Mountains even could pick up some wet snow or a mix of rain and snow, particularly in Nevada and the Northwest portion of Wyoming.
• Flooding remains a risk, especially in the Southeast U.S. and Pacific Northwest, after several rainy days with more rain on the way. The best chance for floods will be found along rivers, creeks, and streams as well as urban and low-lying areas. If you do approach a flooded roadway, remember that it is always best to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!”
• Meanwhile, in New England, clear and partly cloudy skies early in the day will be replaced with scattered showers in the afternoon and evening hours.
• Additionally, the Upper Midwest and Mid-Atlantic will continue to have a break from the rain, where clear and partly cloudy skies can be expected.
• Temperatures across much of the Northwestern U.S will remain unseasonably warm, while the Southwest, Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley, and the Northeast U.S. will be unseasonably cool.
