Recently, a group of riders traveled back in time with a visit to 19th-century Fort Nisqually in the community van! They also enjoyed the nearby Rose Garden and Owen Beach. Trips like these are made possible thanks to our amazing volunteer drivers. Become a Community Van volunteer driver, and you can drive your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone you want. Riders pay the standard public transit fare, while King County Metro covers insurance, maintenance, gas, and tolls. The Hopelink Community Van was out in the community at the Pack the Park event in Lake Forest Park on May 9. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with people and share information about our volunteer program. We enjoyed speaking with over 25 community members and highlighting the impact of the Community Van service. We are proud to be part of the King County community and look forward to seeing you at future events.

The Seattle Seawolves have teamed up with King County Metro to spotlight the Community Van program- making it easier for teams, families, and community groups in Tukwila to travel together. This rugby season, the Seawolves are counting on Community Van to get to practices, games, and destinations across Puget Sound. And here’s the best part: residents in Tukwila and 9 other King County cities can use this same service, too!
Community Van is a flexible, reservation-based rideshare option available 24/7. It helps fill transportation gaps and is powered by volunteer drivers—people just like you. They enjoyed the beaches and marina, discovered some treasures at a local “Miniature & More” shop, and shared a great lunch together. It was a wonderful experience for both the riders and the driver! Community Van is a volunteer-driven program. Becoming a volunteer driver is easy as 1-2-3. STEP 1: Submit a driver application online (Applications take approximately 1-2 weeks to process and approve). STEP 2: 45-minute in-person training with the vans (Learn how to access vans and lockboxes, secure a wheelchair, complete a trip log, and more). STEP 3: One-hour self-paced online orientation covering driver safety and program rules. FINAL STEP: You're approved to drive. You can borrow our van and give rides to your family, friends, neighbors, and others in your community. People can use community vans for transportation anywhere within a 2-hour driving distance. As a driver, you can ride for free. Riders pay public transit fares, and youth ride for free. We pay for gas, tolls, maintenance, and insurance.
