Turkish Airlines is in discussions with leasing companies to acquire between seven and ten young Airbus A320-family aircraft previously operated by the now-defunct Spirit Airlines.

The potential deal, which includes A320s and possibly A321neos, would provide the rapidly expanding Turkish flag carrier with an immediate injection of narrowbody capacity while it awaits delayed deliveries from Airbus and Boeing. Turkish Airlines Chairman Murat Şeker confirmed the airline’s interest, noting that the jets could help bridge gaps in short- and medium-haul operations.

Spirit Airlines suspended operations in early May 2026 following prolonged financial difficulties, leaving a pool of relatively modern aircraft available on the market. Negotiations for the ex-Spirit planes have proven complex and are currently on hold, but interest remains strong.

The acquisition would align with Turkish Airlines’ ambitious growth strategy, which includes hundreds of new widebody and narrowbody orders. Refurbishing the high-density Spirit-configured jets for Turkish’s service standards would be required before they enter the fleet.
