Times in the trucking industry have been rough for a while but lately the news has been encouraging. Read below for some encouraging news ‼️

The Georgia Ports Authority handled more than half a million twenty-foot equivalent container units in August. As a gateway port to the Southeast, the Port of Savannah handles more than 14,000 truck moves daily with 42 trains per week departing to inland markets, featuring a 20-hour average rail dwell on import containers – the fastest in the industry. (Georgia Ports)

As of September 30th, 2025… The Port of Savannah handled 534,037 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) in August, an increase of 44,000 TEUs, or 9 percent year-over-year, representing the third highest month in GPA history.

Georgia has been recognized as the No. 1 state for business for over a decade in part because we're also the best state for reliable infrastructure,” said Governor Brian Kemp.

Did you know Georgia Tech preformed a study that shows the East Coast gateway is the best choice for Atlanta cargo?

Georgia Ports Authority President and CEO Griff Lynch states “Savannah’s terminal velocity combined with faster inland routes overcome the West Coast Ocean transit.”

Did you know last month was the busiest March ever for the Port of Savannah?

In its busiest March ever, the Port of Savannah’s container trade increased by 22.5 percent or 98,000 TEUs compared to the same month last year. In intermodal cargo, the Port of Savannah set an all-time record of 52,645 containers moved by rail, an increase of 17 percent over the same month last year.

The rate of growth was due in large part to two factors: Cargo coming back from the U.S. West Coast after the completion of labor contract negotiations, and second, customers front-loading orders to avoid new tariffs

Did you know Savannah is the fastest growing port on the U.S. East Coast? And they aren’t done expanding yet.

The expansion is needed to handle growing business. GPA handled nearly 5.6 million twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) last year – an increase of approximately 618,000 TEUs compared to 2023. That made Savannah the fastest growing container gateway on the U.S. East and Gulf coasts.

This was an encouraging newsletter from GPA discussing the future of the Savannah Port and its on going growth for the city of Savannah and the state of Georgia.

“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever the cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost”
