This 4th celebration falls on a Tuesday and is my favorite holiday: The 4th of July.
I love this holiday because no matter what heritage you have or religion you follow, we can all get together to celebrate the Freedom of America.
It’s a happy holiday, full of flags, fireworks and whole lot of fun.
Of course, it’s also a day full of parties and picnics… which means having temptation staring at you from every turn.
It’s really easy to take it too far & overindulge when you see a big buffet of your favorite treats… but your stomach will hate you for it later.
Avoid regret (& a stomach ache) with these simple tips:
• Eat a healthful breakfast
Start your day right by filling up on healthful foods like oat grouts, eggs, or a green smoothie. Eating a healthful breakfast prevents “starvation eating” later, and breakfast eaters tend to eat fewer calories throughout the day.
• Bring a snack-pack
No, I’m not talking about those little pudding cups… pack up a little bag full of healthful snacks like nuts & fruit to munch on instead of cupcakes or potato chips.
• Wear your water
Carry your water in a water-bottle holder, and shoot to drink 8oz every hour. Sip on this instead of sugary sodas or lemonade, and avoid thirst-related hunger pangs.
• Follow the 60/20/20 Rule
When filling up your plate with BBQ goods, start by filling up 60% of your plate with salads and vegetables. Use the other 40% to dish out even amounts of carbs & meats.
• Choose your alcohol wisely
I know many people celebrate Independence Day with a few alcoholic beverages… but some drinks are worse for you than others. A margarita or daiquiri can have as many as 800 calories in it… so stick to wine, light beer or lower-calorie mixed drinks like martinis or manhattans.

I hope these tips help you have a fun, safe and healthy holiday this year!
