Let’s talk about Mindset.
A positive mind set, and a little patience can make or break you as a Freight Broker.
As I’m sure you all know and have heard repeatedly, your mind is a very powerful thing. I am a firm believer that this is true. The power of positivity is real, and I notice when I start to fill my own mind with positive thoughts and I’m able to redirect the negative ones, my entire reality changes. Doors open, things coincidentally start working out and I feel lighter overall. Mindset is going to be one of your strongest tools when it comes to being a Freight Broker.
There’s no easy way and no short cuts to establishing yourself as a Freight Broker. You must put in the time and effort. This job can sometimes become very repetitive, it can get hard to stay dedicated to what you’re doing. A standard job may seem easier when you’ve just been rejected for the fiftieth time today while cold calling. Obstacles will come up mid-shipment that make you want take professionality off the table completely. After weeks without a load and no leads, you’re going to want to throw in the towel. It’s all a part of the process.
Personally, I’ve had experiences where my mind got in the way before anything even happened, mostly due to fear. My mind tends to do everything it can to stop me in attempt to protect me from pain, and what I’m saying sounds negative right now but hear me out! My brain naturally does these things, its conditioning and programming that I recently came to realize I AM IN CONTROL of. Wait, hold on— Did you see where I typed, I’m in control? Interesting concept! I can make a conscious choice to ignore the defense mechanisms that are no longer serving me. I can also retrain my mind to be positive and business oriented if that’s what I desire.
Now I can’t sit here and tell you its an easy on and off switch with an overnight turn around rate, it’s going to take time, consistency, and honestly sacrifice. I say sacrifice because we get attached to our own negativity, it becomes our comfort zone. The problem with that is growth is not found within the barriers of our comfort zone.
You must purge your life of the negative and find a way to start surrounding yourself with as many sources of positivity that you can find. When you set your intention watch how fast these things start showing up for you without effort. Distance yourself as much as you can from negativity. This includes people, places, and things.
Write down daily affirmations, read them aloud to yourself repeatedly multiple times throughout the day. With time your reality will turn into those affirmations, trust the process.
Visualization is another powerful way to manifest your ideal work situation, visualize what it looks like and channel the emotions that come along with your visualization.
Surround yourself with like-minded people, business-oriented people, and successful people because as motivational speaker Jim Rhon said, “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.
Make sure to re-affirm your motives every single day. Remember these motives when things get hard and you’re losing confidence. This all may sound like a lot, but you get what you work for and its quite simple to set your daily routine up to incorporate these things.
Be kind to your mind!
