With historic rainfall between winter 2018 through this spring, many roads are closed, including some construction projects due to rivers and creeks rising too high for some work to continue.

The department is not able to predict closures and conditions continue to change rapidly statewide. The agency will keep highways open for as long as it is safe to do so. Travel is discouraged in the hardest hit areas of eastern and northeastern Oklahoma as flooding conditions continue to rapidly c...

Interstate 29 is CLOSED in Missouri and Iowa

Due to major flooding, full closure of I-29 is in place between the Iowa border and Exit 56 (US 71 & 59) at St. Joseph.

The Iowa Department of Transportation issued a news release reporting the closure of I-29 in two locations:
Between Exits 61 and 71 (I-680 at Crescent and Loveland)
Between Exit 35 (US 34) and the Missouri border

Those who would normally use I-29 as a through route should instead use:
I-35 N from Kansas City to
I-80 West in Des Moines to
I-680 at Minden
I-29 at Loveland to parts north
and vice versa for southbound traffic

Travelers already on I-29 North
Drivers who join I-29 north of Kansas City can take US 71 North of St. Joseph and connect to I-35 via multiple connecting highways. Refer to the Traveler Information Map for up to date travel information.

This detour is subject to change with little notice, so please check your route before traveling.

Please do not assume that a highway that is clear of flooding in Missouri will be clear in Iowa, Kansas or Nebraska. Check other states' routes as well as Missouri's.

Also, do not follow locals who are allowed access to I-29 north of St. Joseph.
THERE ARE NO GOOD COMMERCIAL ROUTE ACCESS POINTS available between St. Joseph and the Missouri/Iowa border. Bridges at Missouri's western border, north of US 36 are closed by flooding.

Find road conditions information for all of Missouri's bordering states at https://buff.ly/2YU9FLq

Find the locations of Missouri highway closures using the MoDOT Traveler Information Map at https://buff.ly/2BFutx4. You can also use the free mobile map app, available by searching for "MoDOT" on Apple or Google Play app stores.

Be sure to use the zoom function for both the internet map and the app map. Several hundred locations in Missouri are closed due to flooding. The zoom function will help you locate specific closures.

Be safe. Stay dry.

EDITOR'S NOTE: With historic rainfall since winter 2018 through the spring, many roads are closed, including some construction projects due to rivers and creeks rising too high for some work to continue.
