Northstar Marine’s vessel Northstar Challenger and salvage crew were proud to assist in the response to a barge fire alongside an outstanding multi-agency effort. The fire burned for nearly 24 hours before being brought under control through the coordinated work of local fire departments, state agencies, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Once the fire was contained, our team continued applying water to prevent reflash while crews ensured the vessel remained stable for transit to Camden, NJ for offloading. The barge was carrying scrap metal at the time of the incident.
We’d also like to recognize Resolve Marine for their critical support and specialized marine fire fighting pump as well as the crew of Don Jon Marine’s towing vessel the Douglas J.
Most importantly, no injuries were reported, and this successful response reflects the dedication and teamwork of all agencies involved to protect public safety, maritime commerce, and the environment.
