Just touched base with some hikers that I gave shuttle rides to last year and I was happy to hear that quite a few of them made it all the way to the end at Mt Katahdin in Maine! Definitely looking forward to meeting some more awesome people this season! ♥️👊

Some stasitics about bears and bear attacks

One of the most common fears of hikers are bears. Most notably, bear attacks. It is highly recommended that you hang your food in a bear bag or use a bear canister while camping, but many people ask about carrying bear spray on trail.
Being attacked by a bear is more of an irrational, subconscious fear. Here's some odds and statistics...

Odds of being attacked by a bear within a lifetime :
1 in 2.7 million

Odds of being struck by lightning in a SINGLE YEAR :
1 in 1.5 million

Odds of being struck by lightning in a lifetime :
1 in 15,000

Odds of dying from a bee sting in a lifetime :
1 in 58,000

As you can see, when it comes to things that can kill or injure you, bears aren't even in the conversation.
