Ok, fellow truckers.. don't let the FIRST time you put on your chains be when ENTERING a chain control area!! If you don't know how to drive in snow & your company says go over the rockies, Sierra or whatever mountain in the winter.. please say NO!! 3 times in 3 days, I've pulled over to throw on my chains to get over Donner summit & 3 times I've had foreign drivers from presumably India or somewhere that doesn't snow, ask me to help. Of course I did because I don't want them to wreck themselves, kill a family of 4 or selfishly, shut down the highway for 6 hours or more if it's a fatality accident. The best you can hope for is it's a baby-sitting state like California that has you stop at the scale / port of entry, stop at the fruit fly check thing, stop again at the DOT thing so they can make sure you have enough chains onboard, stop again to chain up then stop AGAIN for them to make your chained up correctly before proceeding up the grade. There's minimum & maximum chain requirements. Minimum is your main drive axle (the front one) & one axle on the trailer. Maximum is both drive axles on the tractor & one trailer HINT.. you need to have your power divider lock engaged. Otherwise, you just chained up for basically nothing. DOT can't tell if your power divider is engaged. That's on you. Please practice in southern Arizona or Texas in an empty parking lot over your 10 hour break. NOT on the side of the pullout coming up a grade. The winter is young. It's not racist when soon I tell you to go F yourself, figure it out, or go call your company. It's on YOU to have your company train you on the truck AND ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT needed for the route they want you to drive. If your from a foreign country or state that doesn't get snow, SAY NO when your from India, a new driver, or from Texas, Mississippi or Florida & you went to truck school in Kansas & your first run is west over the rockies, Sierra, Wasatch or Siskiyous in November-May. It's YOUR CDL & when you wreck & kill a bunch of people because you went somewhere you weren't trained for because your company told you it was fine, & wind up on the news in a bad & in prison, that's on YOU!
