With no family background in business ownership, Alex relied on guidance from local mentors like Aaron Malone and Dr. Larry Seals and resources from The Healthy Bourbon County Action Team. Their support, coupled with Alex’s determination, helped him navigate the process of buying the business and preparing for success.
Now, two years into ownership, Alex continues to lead by example—on the job, in the community, and for his family. His journey is proof that with hard work and the right support, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.

Grateful to help the community ❤️

Today was a special day!
Today, the Community Health Workers (Lisa Robertson, Lindsey Renee McNeil, Kylie Batchelder) and HBCAT Director Rachel Carpenter, with the help from some local partners, were able to help a local homeless woman who had lived on the streets for years, finally move into an apartment of her own- WITH FURNISHINGS!

The team was blessed with a donation of a house full of furniture from a donor who asked to remain anonymous. This included things like a bed, dresser, recliner, coffee table, side table, entertainment center, a tv, lamps, dishes, plates and a multitude of other things.

HUGE THANK YOU to Alex Barner and his crew with Don Woods Moving , and for the financial contribution from the ACT team with Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center. Because of them, this amazing opportunity was made possible.

It’s incredible what a community of partners can work together to accomplish!
