Did you know a Cat C15 ACERT uses the same advanced engineering as a modern 700HP Hellcat or Mustang? 🏎️🔥Yesterday, a 700HP engine meant a radical cam, a rough lope, and zero driveability. But Caterpillar engineered a system that dynamically drops the compression ratio from 18:1 down to 15:1 by holding the intake valve open on the piston’s way up.Using a PicoScope and a Rotkee pulse sensor, we look at the intake captures at cranking vs. idling to see this muscle-car valvetrain tech in action (even on this worn-out cam!). Out of the box, it was average—but built correctly with solid mechanical physics, I can safely build this to a highly efficient, long-lasting 700HP. No cheap coatings required. Cat was the only one crazy enough to engineer this! 🙌🚛

I can safely build this Cat C15 ACERT to a highly efficient, long-lasting 700HP—no gimmicky coatings required. 🛠️💪Yesterday, 700HP meant a radical cam and zero driveability. But Cat engineered this engine like a modern Hellcat or Mustang, using variable valvetrain tech to give us the best of both worlds.Using a PicoScope and a Rotkee pulse sensor at cranking vs. idling, we show how the engine creates a physical "shelf"—hydraulically holding the intake valve open on the piston’s way up to drop the compression ratio from 18:1 down to 15:1. Out of the box it was average, but built right with solid mechanical physics, it’s an unstoppable 700HP beast. Cat was the only one crazy enough to engineer this! 🙌🚛

STOP BUYING "KITS" AND START BUILDING ENGINES.
🛑🛠️I see it every day: owners being told a "High Nickel" or "CGI" head is a magic bullet. But a marriage only works when both partners are in sync.In a modern diesel, your parts are often at war:
Thermal War: Ceramic pistons reflecting heat into injectors, changing your combustion chemistry.
Expansion War: Mixed metals expanding at different rates, scrubbing gaskets and deforming liners.
Frequency War: Rigid CGI and Steel liners acting like tuning forks, vibrating so fast they fret the block and drop the liner anyway. You can't "shelf-buy" your way out of physics. The only way to win is an Engine Health Test / Combustion Blueprint. By scoping the engine and balancing the combustion efficiency, we stop the "fight" inside the block.Protect the machine that provides for your family. Build it right the first time. 🔧📖

CGI Heads + Ceramic Pistons: A Recipe for Disaster!
🏗️❌If you’re building for longevity, listen up. Physics doesn’t lie. Ceramic coatings don’t absorb heat—they reflect it like a mirror. Where does that heat go? Straight into the CGI head, which has ~25% lower thermal conductivity than standard gray iron. The result:
⚠️ Coked Injectors: Excess heat cooks the nozzle tips, leading to premature failure.
⚠️ Mechanical Risk: Ceramic is harder than steel. If that coating lets go (often around 200k–250k miles), it will eat your rings, liners, and valves.
⚠️ The CTE Conflict: A gray iron block and a CGI head expand at different rates. This leads to uneven clamping, liner fretting, and "oval" liners causing blow-by.Don't let sales marketing ruin the machine that feeds your family. This isn't an investment—it’s an expense. What’s your take? Have you seen these "upgrades" fail in the field? Let’s talk in the comments. 👇
