We ranked number 12 on our score at the INDOT/INCOST Rodeo contest. This contest tested the skillset of all drivers through a pre-determined road course. Don Million from SITS placed very well, and we're proud of his efforts and representing Blue River Services and Southen Indiana Transit. All drivers who participated were from all over the state of Indiana Rural Public transportation. So, we are recognizing proudly our driver who placed in the top 20 of over 70 contestants. Way to go Don!!

Hoping everyone has a good and safe week!

It was a pleasure to hand out the INDOT/RLS Rural Mobility Champion Frontline Hero award to all the SITS transportation staff. This award recognizes the dedication to their position within Rural Public transportation. The RIBTC award describes staff as serving the public during the pandemic, with all of the continued risk front line essential workers experience on the day-to-day responsibilities. We are very proud of their efforts and dedication!

It was a pleasure to host the Harrison County Commissioners today! We toured our facility located in Corydon, and they had a chance to ride on our vehicle, and see our system in action. We appreciate their time and support!

For all of our customers, every 3 years or so, INDOT program providers set up a time to hear from the public where grants are provided for transportation. We are at that timeframe now, and the note below is written from the INDOT perspective to talk and announce that opportunity. the number listed is the number to call in to about transportation, and or say what you think the area needs for public transportation.

Here are the details, Date, March 17th, Region 2 (Crawford, Harrison, Orange, Scott, Washington) March 17, 2021

Dear Transportation Providers,

Please circulate this announcement in your communities! The INDOT Office of Transit is updating the coordinated human services transportation plans for the state’s rural coordination planning regions. Over March 17th through 31st, a series of virtual public meetings will be held to inform interested individuals about the possibilities of coordinated public and human service agency transportation and, more importantly, to listen to anyone who rides, would like to ride, and/or operates public, private or human service agency transportation. The meetings will focus on the open discussion about gaps in available transportation service and strategies for increasing mobility. Public, private and non-profit transportation providers, human service agencies, and any individual who needs transportation should attend.

The meeting schedule is attached and is also available at http://tinyurl.com/783czmmm. The schedule includes links to participate in the virtual meetings, as well as dial-in numbers to participate by phone. There is information in the flyer about requesting language translation, closed captioning, or other meeting services for people with disabilities.

We would like to get the word out to as many people as we can, so please forward this to your TAC committees, board members, local elected officials, senior centers, agencies serving people with disabilities, CAP agencies, Head Start, community foundations, and any others you can think of!

We wish everyone a safe Holiday from our Transportation family to yours!

Roy Thomas, Chris Minter, and Joan Riley retired last week. I hired Chris in my first year as director, she accomplished Master Driver status within the INDOT program, which is not an easy level to reach. Chris has 16 years of driving for Blue River. Roy was with us for 7 years, and his contributions were many, always asking if he could help, with a can do attitude. Joan, one of the fiercest organizers I know with a kind heart, also volunteering endlessly for the department. Each of these drivers were trainers within transportation and set high level of performance standards within our group. I appreciate the opportunity to show these photos. These drivers exemplified the Blue River motto on a daily basis," People Serving People" serving the public and our clients, day in and day out, consistently for many years with safety, and care. Many times customers provided positive feedback to management about how considerate these drivers treated them, from 97 years old clients to the youngest Blue River Pre-School programs we serve. It was a pleasure to have them in our group for so many years. Together, they have 28 combined years of experience. We will miss them! We wish them well in their new adventures!

In the effort to continue to keep passengers and staff safe during the Covid pandemic, we have added clear passenger barriers between seats. This is a new item in the INDOT world and will be seen more often next year as INDOT provides these options for public rural systems.

In the beginning, when our Covid-19 rules were being formulated, our staff started off making cloth masks from a couple of patterns, and then they found a really good fitting pattern that is working well. Here are some pictures of our staff creating masks to help our staff and our riders. I greatly appreciate their efforts and designs as well!

Many events have happened in the past few months with Covid-19. At SITS, we are asking riders to help with safety for our staff and their own safety and follow the CDC and INDOT recommended "BEST practices" actions. They are, one, to wear a mask when boarding our vehicles. IF you do not have one, then you will be provided one. This is mandatory. It is to be worn at all times while on the vehicle. Two, we have hand sanitizer available while boarding our vehicles for all person(s). Finally, but not least, the first row of each vehicle will be taped off for our own staff's protection. Safety social distancing will be applied within each vehicle. All other ridership guidelines as listed on our brochure are still in effect. We will be posting some of the last few month's events to reflect some of the positive efforts our staff has been working for our riders. More to follow.
