We are searching for Dispatchers to join our team. The ideal candidates are self-motivated and capable of multi-tasking while demonstrating an efficient and professional manner. Our Dispatchers will be responsible for answering emergency calls quickly and accurately, using their extensive knowledge of the city and Chicagoland area, quick thinking skills are a must in order to guide drivers to the appropriate location. Our ideal candidate will be familiar with both city streets and historical landmarks, which is required when directing drivers to a particular address. Having Knowledge of Mediroutes Software is a strong plus and comes with an incentive.

Responsibilities:

Determine how many vehicles are needed based on the number of daily trips .
Direct NEMT drivers to their members homes, facilities and doctor's appointments.
Instruct drivers to use the most efficient route possible, based on GPS and traffic detours.
Locate a backup driver in case of an accident, illness, or bad weather that keeps a primary driver from performing their duties.
Coordinate with other dispatchers to make sure that all routes are running on time, making sure that our members are on time for their doctor's appointments.
Assist drivers with conflict resolution and quick problem solving.
Calculate the cost of fuel and tolls on a daily basis for scheduled trips.
Monitor weather reports; decide whether or not to send drivers out during inclement weather.

Chris Berry founded B Jays Transportation in 2012 in honor of her late mother Barbara Jean. When her mother became ill, Chris noticed a gap in fair access to transportation. B Jay’s Transport aims to fulfill that need by providing dependable paratransit and charter services to the Chicagoland area.

As a ride share service, Chris’s business was heavily impacted by the pandemic. “Nobody wanted to be in the car with anybody else,” Chris said. “We lost about $50,000 in revenue."

Chris used her Back to Business grant funds towards payroll and PPE for both drivers and passengers.
