π Discover the Port of Baltimore's record-breaking year for import tonnage! π With its six public marine terminals, Baltimore handles a variety of cargo, including autos, RoRo, containers, forest products, and project cargo. It's also the top U.S. port for farm and construction machinery imports. ππ
π According to PIERS import data, Baltimore ranked first for RoRo tonnage, accounting for 12.4% of the national total. Import volumes were up 5.6% YoY, reaching 1.8m tons, the highest since 2018. Automobiles make up 64% of RoRo volume, while Construction Equipment, Cables, and Tractors account for 34%.

π‘ In other news, the truckload market experienced changes last week. Los Angeles saw a 17% drop in loads moved, with higher linehaul rates for outbound loads. Meanwhile, flatbed capacity tightened in Medford, resulting in increased linehaul rates. Birmingham and Montgomery witnessed a decrease in linehaul rates.
βοΈ Flatbed load post volumes hit an eight-year low, decreasing by 7% last week. However, carrier equipment posts remained steady, leading to a decrease in the load-to-truck ratio by 8%.
π Flatbed spot rates experienced their first decline this year, with a $0.02/mile decrease. The national average is now $1.99/mile, which is $0.10/mile lower than last year.
