A Friend of Mom's was created in my heart long before becoming an idea and eventually a business. I had my first child at 22 years old with a very strong support system around me. Therefore, I never had to experience the struggles of being a single parent. Fast forward to having my second child four years later, and life as a single parent became a real challenge! During this period, I was working, in college, and trying to maintain a household with one school aged child and one babbling in my ear (He still does that to this day). I went from one job that took my entire day working 8 to 5 with heavy traffic before and after work to a job closer but working 12-hour shifts that required me to leave home at 5 in the morning. With either job there was one issue that remained. My children still needed safe and reliable transportation to school and the sitter. After hustling to get my degree and not being happy where I was, I began working for the Department of Family Protective Service as a Caseworker. Even though the workload was very stressful and at times sad, I fell in love with my duties as a Caseworker because it was extremely rewarding inside. However, as a mom and a protector of my children, it became extremely difficult to manage a balanced work and home lifestyle with a structured schedule mostly because of childcare times.
