Today we celebrate a key milestone in the ongoing development of Coney Island’s beloved Amphitheater. The City Council has approved a special permit for the Seaside Park and Community Arts Center under the City’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP), ensuring that the Amphitheater and historic Child’s Building continue to serve as vibrant entertainment, event and gathering spaces anchoring the western part of the Coney Island Boardwalk.

NYCEDC also has an open RFP for the repositioning, operation, and maintenance of both the Childs Building and the Coney Island Amphitheater. Selected operators will optimize the site's full potential. All responses to the RFP are due no later than March 31, 2026. https://edc.nyc/operators-coney-island-amphitheater-and-childs-building-rfp

Today’s vote comes as NYCEDC is bringing high quality housing and infrastructure improvements to Coney Island, including mixed-income housing and historic renovations to the Coney Island Boardwalk and Abe Stark Center.

The new NYC Ferry map is out and I’m proud to say we have secured the following:

✅️ ALL DAY 25-minute express service from the 69th Street Pier to Wall Street, with a stop at Atlantic Ave. (right now, we only have express service in peak commuting times)

✅️ A completely new option from Bay Ridge to the west side of Manhattan.

✅️ A completely new option from Bay Ridge to St. George/Staten Island

✅️ Preserved stops along the South Brooklyn line during summer weekends, when most people use these stops most frequently, giving access to the Rockaway Ferry line at Sunset Park, service to Red Hook, and more.

Kayla Santosuosso and I worked hard on a solution that both worked best for the commuters who use the ferry most regularly, and maintained options for the recreational users who want the option to travel to the BK stops during summer. We’d like to thank EDC for working with us and taking our feedback into consideration.

This new route will go into effect by the end of the year. ⛴️ 🌊
