Dear EA Bay Minette Bus Riders,

Over the course of the last 2 years, there has been many changes that have affected us being able to offer a cost effective solution for school transportation to the Bay Minette Area. Rising Fuel Costs, labor costs, and Bus ridership has fluctuated greatly during this time period. Due to these factors, the Board of Directors has approved a $50 per person increase in the cost to ride the Bus. This increase will first be seen with the December 2023 billing cycle.

Due to the decreased ridership, the board is looking into other options for the bus that may take effect during February 2024. Our hope is that this will be a much more affordable option that will allow us to bring ridership fees back down. We plan to provide an update on these options as soon as they are available.

We understand the impact this will have on families involved and thank you for supporting EA during this time.

I am sure that some parents have been a little confused on the bus situation with the Bay Minette bus this past week. Our normal bus is in the shop for repair to a "fender bender" that we had a few months ago on campus at the school while it was parked. This week the shop called and was ready for repair. We used the Old White Bus for 2 days but then realized we actually had to many students with too few seats. We delivered all the students back to Bay Minette on Friday evening via the Escambia Academy 72 seat school bus we purchased back in Spring of 2019. We will have a rental bus for the duration of the repair. It will be delivered on Monday and pick up your children on Tuesday as we head back to school after Martin Luther King Holiday. Thanks for understanding and have a great weekend.

Just a quick reminder to please leave a minimum of one or two parking spots between your vehicle and the bus in the morning. We want to make sure that the students have a safe buffer between any parked vehicles and accessing the bus door.

First day of school reminder:
Wednesday August 14th will be a half day of school. Normal pick-up times apply below. Our bus will return to Perdido at an estimated time of arrival 12:20 PM followed by return to Bay Minette at 12:45 PM.

Remember tomorrow will be our first day riding our Cougar Bus driven by Ms Barlow. Nothing will change except now the bus will stay on campus all day. Stock photos of the bus we are getting to run the Bay Minette to Atmore route. We do not have a delivery date but are working with BRATS on services until it arrives. The new bus will be a 2019 Starcraft Allstar XL 32 passenger with overhead storage.

Using BRATS as our mode of transportation to and from school has been a mostly positive experience. However, as most of you know, BRATS has raised their rate for our students by 148%, starting February 1st. The Board of Directors at Escambia Academy has decided to lease a new 2019 Starcraft bus (similar to BRATS bus) and leave the bus rate as it is. The new bus should be delivered around March 1st. The decision for transportation during the month of February will either be as is, or a comparable alternative. The routes, bus fee, etc will remain the same.

I want to thank our BRATS parents for sending your children to Escambia Academy. I also want to thank the Board of Directors for stepping up and making sure we have no lapse in first class transportation for your children. Your families mean a lot to us and appreciate your support. Hey, we picked up 3 new high school families from Bay Minette since the New Year! Thanks for recruiting!

In the best interest of safety and Because of flash flood warnings until 10:45 this morning from last nights tropic storm Escambia Academy has decided to close school for Wednesday. All classes should resume as normal on Thursday.
