Can a Wheelchair User Travel Around Chiang Mai? ♿
After sharing information about accessible travel in Thailand, I would now like to focus on Chiang Mai — the city where I live and work.
Chiang Mai has beautiful temples, Lanna culture, local food, cafés, nature and many wonderful experiences.
But for wheelchair users and seniors, traveling around Chiang Mai may require a little more planning.
From my experience traveling with wheelchair users and seniors, I have learned that accessible travel is not simply about asking:
“Can a wheelchair user go there?”
The better question is:
“How can we help them get there safely, comfortably, and enjoyably?”
Every wheelchair user is different.
Some people can walk a short distance.
Some use a wheelchair to save energy.
Some need to remain in their wheelchair throughout the journey.
That is why I believe a good wheelchair-friendly trip should be planned around the individual traveler, not around a fixed itinerary.
Sometimes, visiting fewer places, taking more time to rest, and traveling at a comfortable pace can create a much better experience.
For me, accessible travel is not about how many places we can visit in one day.
It is about the experiences, smiles, and memories we create along the way. ❤️
If you are planning a wheelchair-accessible trip to Chiang Mai, I hope this article will be helpful.
