Major containerships return to the Suez Canal

Some of the world’s largest containerships have successfully transited the Suez Canal, signalling a potential easing of maritime disruptions that have kept many vessels away from the route since late 2023. According to MarineTraffic data, on 23 December the 400-metre, LNG-powered CMA CGM Jacques Saade became the largest containership to transit the canal this week, sailing from Morocco to Asia. The CMA CGM Adonis also transited the canal, sailing from Singapore to Lebanon, further signalling a gradual return by major operators.

Earlier, on 18–19 December, the Singapore-flagged Maersk Sebarok transited the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea, becoming the first Maersk containership to return to the route in nearly two years. The vessel is sailing northbound from Salalah, Oman, to New York, where she is expected to arrive on January 11.

Yesterday’s shipment delivered to the dock in less than 24 hours. Just another benefit of docking in one of the world’s busiest ports. Only in Singapore.
