🚛🔴 ADR – Is Theory Enough in a Crisis? 🔴🚛
Having the right ADR equipment, training, and knowledge of procedures is essential. But how does a person actually react in a real emergency?
📌 Theory Alone Won’t Save You!
From a psychological perspective, someone who only knows procedures in theory but has never practiced them may experience the following in a crisis:
❌ Freezing (Decision Paralysis) – The brain struggles to recall the correct response because there’s no prior experience to rely on.
❌ Chaotic Reaction – Under stress and adrenaline, people may take incorrect actions, like using the wrong fire extinguisher or improperly securing a spill.
❌ Tunnel Vision – They focus entirely on one aspect of the danger, such as putting out a fire, while completely ignoring their own safety (e.g., standing in a dangerous position or inhaling toxic fumes).
📌 Why Is Practical Training Crucial?
🔹 The Brain Works on Autopilot – What’s been practiced before automatically kicks in during an emergency.
🔹 Reduces Fear and Panic – Repeating procedures helps maintain composure even in unexpected situations.
🔹 Increases Confidence – A driver who has practiced emergency responses will act faster and more effectively.
🚛 In an emergency, there’s no time to think – only to act! The only way to ensure a proper reaction to a spill, fire, or other ADR-related danger is through regular hands-on training.
