This week, I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful and historic city of Gdańsk in my home country, Poland — a trip filled with professional insights, cultural highlights, and meaningful connections.
I arrived on a sunny Wednesday and started with a traditional Polish dinner alongside a local friend, followed by a walk through the heart of the old city. We visited the impressive Gothic Basilica Mariacka from the 16th century, admired the iconic Neptune Fountain on ul. Długa, and strolled along the Motława River, passing the historic ship "Sołdek" and the beautifully revitalized Wyspa Spichrzów district.
To end the day, I enjoyed a live performance by one of my favorite Polish stand-up stars, Abelard Giza, with his latest show — the perfect mix of humor and sharp observation.
However, the main reason for my visit to this beautiful city was to attend the conference hosted by Izba Gospodarcza Metali Nieżelaznych i Recyklingu (Economic Chamber of Non-Ferrous Metals and Recycling), held at the Hilton Gdańsk.
This year’s event brought together over 300 professionals from across Europe and beyond, discussing key topics in the metal recycling industry — including cross-border collaboration and future challenges.
I had the pleasure of meeting with existing and potential new clients, and engaging in valuable conversations and idea exchanges with both familiar industry colleagues and new connections. These interactions were not only inspiring, but also gave me plenty to reflect on.
I've returned to the UK with new thoughts, ideas, and tasks to complete — all aimed at making JPM Future business even more effective, valuable, and beneficial for our team and, most importantly, for our customers.
The conference concluded with a fantastic evening hosted at Browarnia Gdańsk, where we enjoyed traditional Polish dishes and sampled the oldest Polish beer — a perfect way to wrap up a productive and energizing trip.
