Dear Customer,
We would like to bring to your attention an important regulatory update regarding shipments destined for France. Please review the details below carefully to ensure compliance and avoid any shipment delays.
Effective January 1, 2026, France will only accept EORI numbers linked to the companyβs SIREN (9-digit legal entity ID) for import declarations. EORI numbers based on SIRET (14-digit site ID) will no longer be valid.
What is EORI, SIREN, and SIRET?
EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification): A unique number required for all customs operations in the EU
SIREN: A 9-digit number identifying your company as a legal entity in France
SIRET: A 14-digit number identifying individual sites or establishments of a company.
Currently, some EORI numbers are based on SIRET. These must be updated to SIREN-based to comply with the new rule.
What you need to do:
Contact your French importers prior to shipping into France and make sure they provide you with the correct and compliant EORI number based on SIREN
Keep your importers database updated in case you use one
Make sure the correct and updated EORI of your French importer is used on the commercial invoice
Why this is important:
If the EORI provided is not compliant, it could lead to:
Import declarations being rejected
Shipments held until a valid EORI-SIREN is provided
Possible storage or demurrage charges.
