THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) once again showed its seriousness in stopping fixers from giving government service a bad name.
โThere is no way we will allow these criminals to destroy the image of the LTO and the government and the way we provide service to the public. We are also happy that our regional directors continue to be vigilant in kicking these fixers out of the LTOโs premises,โ says LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jayart Tugade.
LTO Chief Tugade made the declaration after officials of LTO Region 6 and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Jaro Police Station successfully collared another fixer, together with two personnel of an LTO-accredited driving school in an entrapment operation.
The operation stemmed after a suspected fixer offered the issuance of a Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) certificate of completion without taking the actual course itself in exchange for a fee of P2,000.
LTO Region 6 Regional Director Eric Lenard Tabaldo immediately approved the request for entrapment operation led by the Anti-Fixers team headed by Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan ll, Assistant Regional Director and Chairman of the ARTA Executive Committee, Atty. Tanya Lynne Diestro, together with LTO Region 6 staff and PNP operatives from the Jaro Police Station.
A poseur-client contacted the alleged fixer and proceeded to the driving school near the LTO Region 6 building. Upon handing the marked money to the fixer and the driving school personnel plus the issuance of the TDC certificate, the suspects were immediately arrested.
The suspects are now detained at the Police Precinct 3 Jaro Police Station. Charges of Falsification under Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act 11032 or the โEase of Doing Business Lawโ amending Republic Act 9485 or the โAnti-Red Tape Lawโ are now being readied against the suspects.
The accredited driving school, meanwhile, was ordered closed and meted a 60-day suspension while investigation of this incident is ongoing.
