I'm not actually registered with Workaway just now but my friend Pat that came and did a Workaway at the Lodge in Monkey Bay organised it. I decided to come to Uganda back in November when I wanted to travel to the UK in time for my sons engagement party, but at that time Malawi was on the red list for COVID and I couldn't fly back to the UK directly from Malawi without having to go into quarantine at a huge expense....

Well it's not where I expected to be on a cold morning in March, Glasgow! at least I managed to get some sleep on the plane, we discussed getting a bus or train back to our abodes but decide on an Uber, once again I discover that my Uber App is not working (I really need to get that fixed). I message Debbie the lady I was staying with before I left for New York and she is OK with me coming back to stay with her in Broxburn....

After being in the UK for February 2020 and catching up with all my old friends and family it's time to fly across the Pond (Atlantic Ocean) and start my adventure in America. My plan is to spend a week in New York with my daughter 'Lucy' celebrating her 21st birthday, then fly down to South America visiting Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil before getting a flight back to Malawi. Getting through immigration was no problem and after getting my bag which successfully found its way here from Singapore without me picking it up in Kuala Lumpur I get money from the ATM and a SIM card. The guy at the SIM card counter didn't seem very happy or friendly (which I later discover is a trait in India) and after paying for the card he informed me that it wouldn't be activated until 2pm tomorrow which is a pain as I wanted to get an Uber from the air port to my hotel but I get a taxi for 500 rupees (£5) which is expensive for here but then airport taxis are expensive in any country. As Sri Lanka is off limits by order of the British Government Lucy and I are going to stay in Kuala Lumpur for a few days and then go to the north east coast of Malaysia to Merang Jetty and have some beach time, after spending the last 2 months sightseeing around Japan and Korea we really need a rest where we don’t feel as though we have to go visiting places of interest each day. My first impression of Korea and somehow the people don’t seem that friendly but we have just come from Japan which must be the most friendly place on earth, we ask about buses to our hotel from the airport and are advised to buy a TMoney card which is a pre paid card that can be used on public transport and in some shops, its like the Korean equivalent to a Japanese PASMO card. My flight to Japan from Oz is in 2 legs the first is from Brisbane to Cairns and I have a window seat and an amazing view of the Great Barrier Reef. I had thought a 5 hour stop over in Cairns was going to be too long but having entered Oz on my old passport it takes Immigration a while to update their system and process my departure so even after getting fast tracked through a few security points I only just get to the departure gate in time. After traveling for a long time from the Philippines to Perth it is really nice to be met at the airport by a girl I’ve not seen for 40 years. Jane lived next-door to me when I was growing up in a small village in Somerset but I’ve not seen her since we were 10 years old.
