Pre Rup Temple (Khmer: ប្រាសាទប្រែរូប) is generally translated as “Turning the Body” or “Changing the Body’s Position.”

The name “Pre Rup” comes from Khmer:
• Pre = to turn or change
• Rup = body, form, or image

Local tradition associates the name with ancient funeral rites, where a body may have been turned in different directions during cremation ceremonies. However, there is no definitive archaeological evidence that the temple was used as a cremation site. The name likely originated long after the temple was built.

Pre Rup was built in 961 CE by Rajendravarman II as a Hindu state temple dedicated mainly to the god Shiva.

Today, Pre Rup is famous for:
• Its pyramid-like design
• Beautiful red-brick towers
• Spectacular sunset views over the Angkor plain,
