Koh Dach is a popular natural and cultural tourist destination located along the Mekong River in Chroy Changvar District, Phnom Penh (approximately 12 kilometers northeast of the city center). Koh Dach is known as “Silk Island” due to its fame for its ancient silk weaving and peaceful rural atmosphere.
Attractions and Highlights
1. Ancient Silk Weaving Village
Arts and Crafts: In the back of ancient wooden houses under the old houses, locals still maintain the tradition of weaving skeins, phamuangs, and kramas by hand.
Experiences: Visitors can visit a weaving community and learn about the stages of silk production, from raising silkworms, dyeing them with natural dyes, to weaving them into cloth.
2. Beaches and Recreation
Dry Season Beaches: During the dry season (approximately November to May), the water of the Neak River drains the rice fields and recedes, creating a beautiful stretch of sandy beach.
Rafts and Rest Houses: There are wooden huts and floating rafts for sitting and having a picnic, eating grilled chicken or local dishes, and swimming in the river for fun.
3. Natural scenery and rural life
Farms and fruits: Koh Dach is rich in mango, grapefruit, banana and other vegetable plantations, which provide fresh air and lush greenery.
Cycling: The roads around the island are quiet, perfect for cycling or riding a motorbike to see village life, ancient temples, and sunset views along the river.
Getting there
Tourists can travel from the center of Phnom Penh, cross Chroy Changvar Bridge to National Road 6A, and then take a ferry across the river (such as the Kdei Dop ferry or the Prek Liep ferry) to reach Koh Dach in just 30 to 45 minutes.
