Most rainy-day breakdowns actually start weeks earlier, and regular checks can help prevent catastrophe.
Here's how to make the checks count:
🛞 Tyres: Check pressure when they're cold, before you drive. Warm tyres give a false reading.
🛞 Brakes: On a quiet stretch, brake gently at low speed. If the car pulls or the pedal feels spongy, book an inspection.
🛞 Wipers: Run them with washer fluid before the rain starts. Dry wipers on dry glass wear out faster.
🛞 Lights: Wipe the lenses clean. Dirty covers dim your beams, and you need them most in the rain.
🛞Fluids: Top up your washer fluid regularly. Road spray uses it up quickly.
Once you're on the road, double your following distance on wet surfaces, and remember to never drive through standing water when you cannot tell how deep it is.
