A great city event, so it’s time for… “did you know that.. ?”Sunday edition. ⚓️

Oggi celebriamo La Regata Storica! Un grande evento per la città, quindi è arrivata l’ora del.. “lo sapevi che..?” Edizione della domenica⚓️

🇺🇸Every year, the first Sunday of September, La Regata Storica (that means “the historical regatta”) comes back in Venice, where it took place for the first time the 10th of January 1315 under the rule of the doge Giovanni Soranzo. The sumptuous event, organized to celebrate the military victories, in the Serenissima times, today is made up of two different parts: the historical parade and the rowing boat races. The Event as we know it today originated at the end of the nineteenth century, in 1899 to be exact, when thanks to the Biennale d'Arte not only the regatta was defined with the adjective "historical", but also the organizational guidelines were decided
a spectacular re-enactment of the welcome procession that the Republic of the Serenissima reserved in 1489 to Caterina Corner , Queen of Cyprus, who renounced her throne and allowed the annexation of the island to Venice.

🇮🇹Ogni anno, il primo sabato di settembre, la Regata storica torna a Venezia, ebbe luogo la prima volta in 10 settembre 1315 sotto la guide del doge Giovanni Soranzo. Il sontuoso evento durante il tempo della serenissima per feel fare le vittorie militari oggi è composto di due parti: la parata storica e la competizione di voga. L’evento come lo conosciamo oggi ha origine alla fine del diciannovesimo secolo, esattamente nel 1899, quando grazie alla biennale d’arte non solo la regata venne definita con l’aggettivo “storica” ma venne decise le linee guida per la rievocazione della processione per ricordare il benvenuto organizzato dalla repubblica di Venezia riservato nel 1489 a Caterina Corner, regina di Cipro, la quale rinunciò al suo trono e permise l’annessione dell’isola a Venezia.

It’s time for the weekly “Did you know ?” 📚
Did you know that Giacomo Casanova was the only man who escaped from the prisons of Venice?

🇬🇧In 1756, at the age of 30, Giacomo Casanova was jailed and sentenced to 5 years, to be kept in solitary confinement in “The Leads,” the prison portion of the Doge’s palace. Miserable and alone, he began plans for a daring escape through the floorboards, sharpening a stolen length of metal he painstakingly scratched his way to freedom.
But then, just as he was about to execute the escape, he was moved to to another cell, where after a bout of self pity, he began anew with the help of a conspirator and fellow prisoner, Father Balbi.
On the night of Oct 31, Casanova broke through and saw the night sky above.

Lo sapevi che Giacomo Casanova fu l’unico uomo che riuscì a fuggire dalle prigioni di Venezia?
🇮🇹Nel 1756 all’età di 30 anni Giacomo Casanova fu imprigionato con sentenza a 5 anni di carcere, da passare nei Piombi, una porzione di prigione di Palazzo Ducale. Triste e solo, iniziò a pianificare una fuga attraverso le assi del pavimento lavorando un pezzo di metallo rubato scrupolosamente con l’obbiettivo di tornare alla libertà. Ma poco prima di eseguire il suo piano, gli fu cambiata la cella e dopo un periodo di autocommiserazione iniziò a cospirare con il compagno di cella, Padre Balbi. La notte del 31 ottobre Casanova riuscì ad evadere e a vedere il cielo sopra di lui.
