Hello friends and followers
Here some official numbers commonly cited estimate is that approximately 0.5% to 1.5% of the population identifies as transgender, so why fearing transgender is contagious?

A 2022 Gallup poll in the United States reported that about 0.7% of U.S. adults identified as transgender.

A 2016 study published in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry found that about 0.5% of the population in the United States identified as transgender.

These figures can vary based on cultural, social, and methodological factors, and they may change over time as awareness and social acceptance of transgender identities increase.

United Kingdom: A 2018 survey by the UK Government Equalities Office estimated that approximately 0.3% to 0.8% of the UK population might identify as transgender.

Netherlands: A 2018 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that about 0.6% of Dutch adults identify as transgender.

Sweden: Research published in 2016 estimated that about 0.5% of the Swedish population identifies as transgender.
Belgium: A 2017 study from the Institute for the Equality of Women and Men suggested that approximately 0.6% of the Belgian population identifies as transgender.

European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) Survey (2020): Although not specific to Switzerland, this survey provides insights into the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals across Europe. According to this survey, approximately 1.9% of respondents in Europe identified as transgender or non-binary. Switzerland, while not an EU member, often aligns with broader European trends in social issues.

Overall, while exact figures for Switzerland are scarce, the prevalence of people identifying as transgender is estimated to be within the typical range of 0.3% to 0.6% of the population, reflecting trends seen in other European countries.

The prevalence of people identifying as transgender in various European countries generally falls within a similar range to the estimates found in other parts of the world, often around 0.5% to 1% of the population.

In Italy, data on the prevalence of people identifying as transgender is somewhat limited, but there are some studies and surveys that provide insights:

ISTAT Report (2020): The Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) conducted a survey in 2020 that provided some data on the transgender population. According to this report, approximately 0.5% of the Italian population identifies as transgender. This estimate aligns with broader European averages.

As with other countries, social stigma, legal challenges, and varying levels of social acceptance can influence the accuracy of these estimates. It is also important to consider that awareness and self-identification are increasing, which might affect future data collection and reporting.

Data on the prevalence of people identifying as transgender in Asia and Africa is less comprehensive and varies widely due to cultural, legal, and social factors. However, here are some estimates and studies available:

Asia

India: The 2011 Indian Census included a “third gender” category, which recorded around 490,000 people, roughly 0.04% of the population. However, this is likely an underestimation due to stigma and underreporting.

Thailand: While specific percentages are hard to pin down, Thailand is known for its relatively visible transgender community. Some estimates suggest that transgender individuals make up a higher proportion of the population compared to other countries, but reliable statistics are scarce.

Japan: A 2017 survey by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reported that about 0.1% of the population is diagnosed with gender dysphoria, though this number does not encompass all transgender individuals.

Africa

Data on the prevalence of transgender individuals in African countries is even more limited and often affected by significant social stigma and legal challenges:

South Africa: A study by the Human Sciences Research Council in 2016 suggested that about 0.2% of South Africans identify as transgender, although this number may be underestimated due to stigma and fear of discrimination.

General Estimates: Across other African nations, reliable data is sparse, and social acceptance varies greatly. Legal and societal barriers often prevent accurate data collection.

In both regions, it is important to note that underreporting and lack of comprehensive studies make it difficult to provide precise estimates. Social stigma, legal challenges, and varying levels of awareness and acceptance play significant roles in the visibility and self-identification of transgender individuals.

Venezia oggi la verità prima o poi viene a galla. 23 June 2022

English :
Alex Hai, trans gondolier. "I used to follow Cloe. She was a role model for the discriminated transgender community "
by Vera Mantengoli

His story also became a documentary.
"I exiled from Venice . We, like Cloe, work for a better future. But it seems the only way is to kill ourselves.

His story, a dream broken by prejudice, has toured the world- and the documentary that tells it (Veni Etiam. I shall come again by Mahtab Mansour), never received in Italy, has been awarded in 14 international festivals.
Today Alex Hai is a 55-year-old "forcibly retired" gondolier. He was basically sent away from Venice so much so that today he says he is "in exile, hoping that justice will be done."

a few days after the death of Cloe Bianco, the physics teacher who set herself on fire because of the constant discrimination she had suffered since she revealed her gender identity, Alex Hai recalls the struggle for those who, like him, were born in a body, they did not feel was theirs.

"I had been following Cloe on FB since 2015 and for me she was an important example of courage. Thanks to her I felt that it was never late to have gender confirmation surgery, even while holding a public job. Cloe, as her former student Sara Mazzonetto said, died because of our society. Cloe, I and so many people like us, mocked, accused, threatened and robbed of our jobs, are instead trying to improve society to build a better future that is worthy of every human being."

The story of Alex Hai, half German and half Algerian, begins when he arrives in Venice in the 1990s with dreams of becoming a gondolier. He immediately clashed with what is often referred to as mafia (the gondoliers), who only recently welcomed some women, mostly relatives.

In addition to being in the eyes of many Venetians a foreigner, Alex is non transitioned trans man at that time who later undergoes gender confirmation surgery.
Failing the gondolier exam several times, "bullied and discriminated against," Alex Hai in 2005 set up on his own and began working privately with hotels. They do not leave him alone in this case either. Attacks from those who accuse him of practicing an abusive job are continuous, and the municipality changes a law that up to that time allowed him to perform what is called casada gondolier, or private.

Alex Hai appealed to the court and won in 2007, as the Supreme Court ruling in 2015 would reaffirm. "The threats were continuous and so were the insults that had now continued for years," he recalls, speaking of a wound that still stings. "In the end, to protect those who loved me, I went out on my own. I could not separate myself from my gondola."
At that time, as one can still read on his FB page (Alex Hai Gondola Tours) so many reached out to Alex Hai, leaving messages of affection and appreciation for his work.
However, in 2019 the local police stopped him and confiscated his gondola as he was pointed out as an illegal worker. "I have been separated from my gondola for 980 days. I couldn't even take one last ride, now I don't know where it is, it belongs to the municipality," he says.
For me, Venice without my gondola doesn’t make sense. I felt bullied and discriminated against for a combination of factors, because I was a foreigner, because I was in a woman's body, and because I was a trans man," he explains. "Every time I took the exam I always got a lower score! Yet I had been hired by hotels, do you think a hotel takes for its clients someone who cannot row?"
From that moment Alex Hai left Venice and went abroad into exile.
Today Cloe's story reopens many reflections that were never addressed. "It must be understood that a person's gender identity may or may not correspond to the s*x assigned at birth. In the case of trans people, gender identity does not match. One finds oneself in the wrong body. It's a twist of nature that you suffer and that's why you have to explain to young people what it is," Alex Hai continued.
"I already told my parents before kindergarten that I was Alex. Transition is like a second puberty, you explore new tastes and, as it happens to every adolescent , you feel a little clumsy. That's why you should to do it as soon as possible." For Alex Hai, the problem in Italy is that the bureaucratic path, with all obstacles is absurd. "Many do the operation in other countries , but not everyone can afford it financially."
Alex Hai's story is not over yet. He still dreams of his gondola in which his poem "And the moon will be born, to dream of another day" was engraved. "Until justice is done I will stay away from Venice. Unfortunately, today it seems that the only way to receive due apologies is to kill oneself. I have faith in young people. The 20-year-olds of today are strong and sooner or later they will come to power. I trust in them, the only hope."

Herr Hai, kannten Sie Cloe Bianco?

Was ist passiert?
