Wine tasting in Tuscany sounds romantic until you realize you never want to leave.

One minute you’re “just doing a tasting,” and the next you’re three glasses deep, buying olive oil you somehow need to ship home, and seriously questioning why you don’t live in a stone villa in Montalcino.

This is exactly why we love taking our guests to small boutique wineries hidden in the Tuscan countryside. The kind of places you’d never randomly find on Google or drive past by chance. No tourist traps, no rushed experiences — just amazing wine, beautiful views, and winery owners treating you like family by the second glass.

After the truffle hunt, the experience continues with an incredible farm-to-table lunch in the countryside 🍷✨

The other day we had the pleasure of taking a wonderful family on one of my favorite experiences in Tuscany — a truffle hunt 🍂🐾

And here is the real star of the show… the truffle dog! These amazing dogs are specially trained to sniff out hidden truffles deep in the forest. It’s such a fun experience for the whole family and truly one of the most unique things you can do in Tuscany.

It’s all for Santa Zita — Lucca’s beloved saint — and the city comes alive in the most beautiful way. Color everywhere, sunlight pouring in, and that slow, magical feeling that makes Tuscany feel like a dream.

This isn’t just a market… it’s a tradition, a celebration, and honestly one of the moments that makes Lucca feel like a real-life fairy tale 💐

The Basilica di San Frediano is one of the oldest and most important churches in Lucca, with origins going back to the 6th century. Its current Romanesque form dates mostly to the 1100s, and it’s especially famous for that golden mosaic on the façade you photographed.

But what makes it deeply special to locals is its connection to Santa Zita.

Santa Zita lived in the 1200s and worked as a servant for a noble family in Lucca. She became known not for wealth or status, but for her kindness, humility, and quiet acts of generosity — often secretly giving food and help to the poor.

After her death in 1278, she was buried in San Frediano. Over time, her body became a place of devotion, and it was preserved and placed in a glass shrine inside the church, where it remains today.

For centuries, people have come to visit her there:

* to pray
* to leave flowers
* to honor her simple, compassionate life

That’s also where the tradition of the flower market for Santa Zita comes from — it’s a living symbol of the offerings people would bring her.

So when you walk into San Frediano, you’re not just seeing a beautiful church — you’re stepping into a place where history, faith, and local tradition have been intertwined for over 700 years.

And yes… part of that history is very real and very human — which is exactly why it leaves such a strong impression.
