Stock market finance guru Safe Transportation Campaign for women commuters in Lucknow The campaign was started in 2011 by a youth group.

Safe Safar is a campaign that works on promoting safe public transport options for women & girls in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The group since its inception has worked with university students, Government bodies, volunteers and the larger civil society to reclaim city spaces for women and create a sense of safety and equality in the city. Across the country, women face many challenges in

accessing public transport. Problems such as teasing or sexual harassment and verbal abuse are widespread, especially in large cities. To understand this problem in the city of Lucknow, we undertook a baseline study of the shared Autos and tempos which are the most common mode of transportation in the city. Through this survey we tried to understand the attitudes and behavior of the auto drivers on the issue of women’s safety. We also spoke to women commuters across the spectrum and tried to understand their personal experiences. The women polled shared how these negative experiences affect their personal lives as well as their social outlook. The survey also came up with facts such as, lack of knowledge about helpline numbers and avenues to register complaints. Through this extensive baseline survey we have learnt the multiple factors that are creating this unsafe environment for women. With our knowledge of the problem and its challenges we have started a campaign with the auto drivers and we are working towards sensitizing them about gender based violence, laws related to street sexual harassment and creating a personal sense of ownership of ‘My vehicle is safe’
Safe Safar currently reaches out to almost 2000 number of campaigners in Lucknow. University students, teaching faculty, government departments, Auto drivers and women commuters are all lending their voice to the right to safe access to public transport.

"Samjho Toh" is an 8 weeks long journey that brings young people, from across identity and ideological borders, to dialogue and collaborate to come up with an understanding on what nationalism means to them and their common idea of India based on the constitution. Between the meetings the young play the Samvidhan Live game focusing on tasks that foreground the value of fraternity.

As we had mentioned in our last post that many girls are dropping out of schools due to the technical constraints and inaccessibility of smart phones and internet which actually stops them to attend the online classes and therefore, they end up in helpless situations.

Sanjana, our youth leader faced the similar problem and she shared her struggles with the team of Yeh Ek Soch Foundation two weeks back.
Gladly, we had people who came forward and contributed their every bit with so much of love and warmth.
So with all the support, good wishes and most importantly consent of her parents, we were able to help Sanjana with a smart phone & a tutor to guide her. We went to her house to handover the phone and to make sure that she understands the correct use of technology.

It was so heartwarming to see a sparkling smile on her face that day! :)

We would like to thank each and everyone who came forward to support us in this. It wouldn't have been possible without you all. More power to you all.

We are trying to support many girls like Sanjana and we are seeking support for the same. Help us in making this pandemic to generate a new style of smart learning and making this society a better place with their contributions as well.
