TRIBUTE TO WILLIAM BRYAN THOMAS*
*By Mr. Derek McKenzie, President - National Bus Association*

On behalf of the National Bus Association, I pay tribute to our brother and comrade, William Bryan Thomas of Belmont, St. George.

Bryan was an Operator who plied his trade in Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 4. I have known him in this industry as a humble man, a quiet worker, always interested in knowing what is happening and always willing to give a helping hand.

He was not a man of noise. He was a man of service.

Today I want to focus not only on Bryan, but on us who are still alive. My brothers and sisters in this industry, we are dying young. Too young. From all kinds of complications - pressure, stress, neglect of self.

As we serve the public, let us make time to focus on ourselves, on our health, on our loved ones.

Lately, I have been attending too many funerals of our fellow Operators. Too many. It is heavy on my heart.

Let this be our reset. Death is inevitable, but it is what we do whilst we are living that counts.

Bryan lived. He served. He provided for his family and for this nation.

Let us unite. Let us champion together, for better health, better support, and better for our industry.

To the family and friends of Bryan, and to our entire transport family - we have lost a comrade.

May his soul Rest in Peace.

*A HUMBLE APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE OF GRENADA: SHOW OUR BUS OPERATORS SOME COMPASSION*

We ask our Bus Operators to be more courteous, more reliable, more punctual, and more service-driven. These are fair expectations. We all want a good public transport system.

But today, we make a humble appeal to look beyond the steering wheel and see the human being behind it.

Consider this:

A trip that should take 15 minutes now stretches to 1 1/2 hours one way in traffic. As passengers, we get agitated. We get frustrated. We complain.

Now imagine the Operator. He or she does that same 1 1/2 hour stretch, back and forth, all day long, for *12 to 14 hours a day, for 12 to 14 work days straight.*

What happens to that Operator's body? What happens to his mind? What happens to his patience, his concentration, his family life?

Many of our operators are up from 4am and 5am to start the day. They are still on the road at 7pm and 8pm. Not just Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday too on limited routes.

For most of us, a 40-hour week is the standard. We get evenings, weekends, time to rest and recover.

For many operators, there is no such break. And we still ask them to smile all day while carrying that burden.

*His and her mindset must be taken into consideration among other factors.*

This is not an excuse to avoid responsibility. Our operators know they must improve quality and professionalism. We are committed to that.

This is an appeal for understanding, fairness and compassion.

Before we judge, let us try to understand. Before we criticize, let us acknowledge the sacrifice. Before we ask for more, let us appreciate what is already being given.

Let us look at the whole picture. Not just the service we receive, but the human cost of providing it.

An operator who is rested, respected and appreciated will always give better, safer service to you.

Let us be kinder to each other on the road.

Let’s see past personal gratifications and see the universal picture !!! Because if we only view it from how it affects us individually then the whole becomes blurred !!!

On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the NBA has spoken. We voted to reform our old Constitution and put in place a modern framework for the way forward. Thank you for seeing the vision and turning out to vote.

Now we are tasked with implementing these constitutional changes, and we will move in short order to get it done.

Unity is essential. The work ahead requires all operators at the table. Whatever differences exist must be reconciled, because a new chapter has begun.

Next steps: we will move expeditiously to hold zonal elections – electing a zone executive member and co-team members in each zone – in preparation to vote in a new executive body at the next Annual General Meeting.

In the meantime, we forge ahead in addressing the challenges facing the National Bus Association.

Congratulations. The struggle continues.
