How does a Private Hire Driver in York, comply with Council requirements? ๐
To become a private hire driver in York takes time and involves meeting certain criteria. The process can take 3-6 months and the following needs to be obtained/achieved before you obtain your badge (license to drive a private hire vehicle);
โ Safeguarding and Knowledge test - this is a full-day course and a pass mark of a minimum 36/40 needs to be achieved. This covers mandatory taxi requirements as well as knowledge of the City WITHOUT the use of SatNav.
โ A full DBS check
โ A driving exam with a qualified examiner and as in a standard driving test, a minimum score needs to be achieved.
โ A full medical report from your GP
โ A prescription from your optician if you wear glasses or contact lenses
โ A roadworthy vehicle that has undergone a full MOT and also a more vigorous vehicle examination carried out by Fleet Services within York City Council.
Once all these have been completed successfully, then a Taxi license will be issued. The cost of all these to the individual will be in excess of ยฃ500 and then there are annual costs to maintain your licence.
