I took my children to the Kelpies when they were young and to the Helix play park along the road. This was the start of cycling races I used to do also. But what are the kelpies?

Rising 30 metres above the Forth & Clyde Canal, The Kelpies are more than striking sculptures—they are a tribute to Scotland’s industrial soul.

Designed by sculptor Andy Scott, each structure is formed from over 300 tonnes of steel, inspired by the powerful Clydesdale horses that once powered Scotland’s canals and industry.

But their name carries a deeper story. In Scottish folklore, “kelpies” were shape-shifting water spirits said to lure travellers to the water’s edge—adding a layer of myth and mystery to these modern giants.

An interesting detail few notice:
Each Kelpie is modelled after real horses—Duke and Baron—and their design subtly captures different personalities: one calm and composed, the other more spirited and alert.

A landmark where myth, history, and engineering meet, but also part of our family heritage.

Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe

In the heart of Scotland’s most dramatic landscape sits one of the Highlands’ most iconic retreats.

Surrounded by the towering peaks of Glencoe and watched over by the legendary Buachaille Etive Mòr, the Kingshouse Hotel offers a rare kind of Highland luxury—where wild beauty meets refined comfort.

Imagine arriving here after a scenic drive through the glen, stepping out into crisp mountain air before enjoying a fireside whisky as the sun sets over the Highlands. And you can say hello to the stags who eat from the grass in the hotel grounds.

This is Scotland at its most unforgettable.

Discover Scotland beyond the ordinary with a bespoke journey designed entirely around you.

The Kelpies will always feel a little like home to me. Growing up in Falkirk, I saw this place before they rose from the ground — now I can’t imagine the skyline without them.

They’re not just sculptures, they’re a reminder of Scotland’s strength and spirit. And no matter how many times I see them, I still stop and take it all in.

Proud to be a Falkirk Bairn.

For me, Glencoe is the most breathtaking place in Scotland. No matter how many times I drive through, the drama of the mountains and the way the light changes with every passing cloud always stops me in my tracks.

It’s not just a road—it’s an experience. Rolling through the glen in comfort, with time to take it all in, makes the journey as memorable as the destination itself. There’s something about Glencoe that feels both wild and deeply peaceful at the same time.

Every time I’m there, I’m reminded why I love sharing Scotland with our guests—it’s simply unforgettable.

“Did You Know? One Spider Changed Scotland’s Destiny”

Captured here is the mighty statue of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots (1306–1329), standing tall at Bannockburn — a symbol of bravery, resilience, and national pride.

Fun Fact: After suffering defeat, Bruce hid in a cave where he watched a spider repeatedly try — and fail — to spin its web. It finally succeeded, inspiring Bruce to persevere. He returned stronger and went on to lead Scotland to a historic victory at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 — one of Scotland’s most significant wins in the Wars of Independence.

His story is a timeless reminder: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again — even a King took advice from a spider!

Whether in battle or building a business, persistence wins.
