I’m going to take this unusual opportunity to say my farewells; after 12yrs service to Transport for Transplant – a period without incident or error; and for that I make no apology for being exceptionally proud.
Vids like this show the short (but often stressful) ‘glory-moments’ of the role but the day-to-day realities are much more mundane; completely unpredictable work-patterns - long waits, long hours, long drives. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a rewarding role and the main reason I’ve done it for so long, but it plays absolute hell with your home/social life.
I’d also like to highlight and pay tribute to my TFT colleagues (employees and contractors alike) I’ve had the privilege to work with (you know who you are), who otherwise go almost completely unnoticed in our ‘secretive’ and crucial role organising and magically whisking somebodies ultimate gift to save another’s life across the country at all times of day/night and in all weather conditions…..and many of those will not have had a pay rise in over 10yrs!
To all the Duty Controllers, SN-OD’s (Specialist Nurses in Organ Donation), Drivers and Sub-Contractors….plus a special mention to Amvale Medical Transport Limited; my very best wishes for the future and thanks for making it such a thoroughly worthwhile experience.
