🚨 Taxi Drivers Under Attack in Stoke-on-Trent 🚨

Over the past few weeks, there has been a worrying rise in incidents where taxis across Stoke-on-Trent have been targeted and vandalised. Reports from areas like Hanley,Cobridge,Tunstall show taxi windows being smashed by unknown individuals, with some cases also involving theft.

This is deeply concerning for hardworking drivers who rely on their vehicles to earn a living. These attacks are not only causing financial loss but also creating fear within the community.

We urge anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has CCTV footage to come forward and report it to the police. Let’s stand together to protect our drivers and keep our community safe.

Taxi fares are set to rise across the UK following the introduction of a new tax in yesterday's Autumn Budget. Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed that private-hire trips booked through ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Bolt will be subject to 20% VAT from the new year.

🚓👮‍♂️ Staffordshire Road Crime Team 🚨

Officers carried out a joint operation with West Midlands Police, with Roads Safety Teams stopping nearly 200 vehicles for quick roadside checks focused on drink and drug driving.

The results included: 🚔 2 arrests
🚗 1 uninsured vehicle seized
🛑 Other offences detected, including no seatbelts and no MOTs

Proactive enforcement continues as officers work together to keep roads across Staffordshire safe for everyone.

🚔 Cheshire Police Night-Time Enforcement Operation 🚖

Cheshire Police carried out a covert late-night taxi enforcement operation in Nantwich as part of a wider Night Time Economy Night of Action, working alongside Cheshire East Council to keep people safe 🌙

Officers conducted targeted checks on taxis and private hire vehicles during peak night-time hours, focusing on licensing, insurance and vehicle safety. The aim was to identify unlicensed drivers, unsafe vehicles and breaches of local licensing conditions 🚕✔️

While no specific offence figures were released for the taxi checks, the activity formed part of a broader enforcement operation that uncovered multiple compliance issues across the town. The checks were designed to protect passengers and maintain confidence in licensed night-time transport, particularly during busy weekends and the festive period 🎄

Alongside the taxi operation, police community support officers and council enforcement teams carried out town centre patrols. More than 30 tickets were issued for parking and other civil offences in areas including Welsh Row, St Anne’s Lane and Jackson Avenue. One driver was found using a blue badge belonging to a person who has since passed away ⚠️

The Night of Action also included drink and drug driving checkpoints, resulting in the arrest of a man found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit. Several other motorists were reported for a range of driving offences 🚓🍺

A drugs detection dog was deployed in the town centre, leading to more than 20 positive indications. A number of individuals are expected to be summonsed to court for possession offences, with on-the-night support provided by Change Grow Live Cheshire East 🐕‍🦺

Licensing checks were carried out at every pub in Nantwich, with officers engaging with staff to promote compliance and a safe environment 🍻

The operation involved more than 20 officers, supported by the Special Constabulary and the Rural Crime Team. Police said the focus was on preventing harm, tackling antisocial behaviour and keeping Nantwich safe for residents, visitors and those working late into the night 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️
